The Different Types of Network Cable
With all the different types of network cable out there today, one wonders what is right for your application. Today I will talk about different types of cables and what their intended use to go.
Shielded vs. unshielded – If the cable is defined as non-shielded cables to watch, it just means they wrap the son of metal under the plastic cover. Unshielded cables are usually less expensive than shielded cables and are more commonly used in homes and offices. Shielded cable is likely to close in industrial applications, to find a lot of electrical interference such as large motors.
CAT5 – This is the first generation of Ethernet cables. Most likely you will not find these in your local dealer. CAT5 cables are capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 100Mbps / s over distances up to 100 meters. These cables operate at a frequency of 100 MHz and can support Power over Ethernet.
CAT5e – This is the latest standard CAT5 family. The only difference between CAT5 and CAT5e CAT5e is capable of transferring data at up to 1000Mbps 1 GBP / s / s.
CAT6 – This cable leads to more confusion. The common misconception is that this cable is the connection “speed”. This is simply not always true. How CAT5e, CAT6 cable can transmit data up to 1000Mbps / s 1 GBP / s to a distance of 100 meters. However, they are also capable of transmitting data at 10 Gbps / s, up to a distance of 55 meters at a frequency of 250MHz, and also keep Power over Ethernet.
CAT6A – This is probably one of the lowest common thread. This is the same CAT6 cable that works with the exception of the frequency of 500 MHz
Remember, just because you use a cable to 1 GBP / s nominal, you will be able to achieve the connection speed if the devices support network. For example, you have a Sony Playstation 3, which supports Gigabit Ethernet, you can connect with a CAT5e cable to him in the Gigabit switch / router. All this means that it is connected to the LAN for 1 GBP / s, they are communicating with network devices with limited internal 1 GBP / s will be faster, but your online gaming is still connected to the speed of your connection Internet. As team members, a network is only as fast as the slowest member.
